Overview
Making its Cal Performances debut, the Afiara String Quartet is a young ensemble poised on the edge of greatness. The group displays keen interest in new works, offers fresh insight into core classical repertoire, and has already won major honors, including the Concert Artists Guild International Competition (2008) and the Young Canadian Musicians Award (2010). The group's Berkeley program is a delightful combination of old and new, with masterworks of Haydn and Beethoven plus a new work by Boston composer Brett Abigaña, commissioned by the Afiara. "A revelation...their performance individually and collectively, their musicality and maturity...place the Afiara amongst the best of current quartets" (La Presse, Montreal).

Private Home
(Donors of $5,000+)
It is rare to have the opportunity to see a world-class performer in as intimate a space as a private home. But every season, Director's Circle donors comprise a select audience for a private concert by artists including, in recent years, Richard Goode, the Jerusalem String Quartet, Garrick Ohlsson and Jordi Savall.
Membership benefits like these are our way of thanking our supporters for their much needed contributions. To find out how you can become a Donor, please call 510.643.8783 or visit our Support section.
