Support Education and Community Programs

Every year, Cal Performances offers more than 100 educational programs, ranging from performances for elementary schoolchildren and workshops for their teachers to master classes that make full use of the intellectual resources of a great research university. Best of all, these are offered at little or no charge to participants.

In school and out, we share the same top-caliber artists featured in our season with K-12 schoolchildren from throughout the East Bay. At each SchoolTime performance, 2,000 students, teachers and chaperones pack Zellerbach Hall for what might be their first live performance ever. The $4-per-student visit to the SchoolTime matinee is the highlight of a three-part enrichment program, Cal Performances in the Classroom, which includes professional development workshops for teachers, comprehensive study guides, and in-school classes with teaching artists, carefully aligned with statewide curriculum standards.

Across the UC Berkeley campus, study and engagement with visiting artists is a regular feature of academic life for graduate students, undergrads, faculty, and staff in all disciplines. Students and faculty can enjoy master classes and lectures by the world's greatest performing artists; symposia, conferences and demonstrations created in partnership with Cal faculty; and complementary academic programming with departments across campus.

For the broader community, we offer dozens of free events, on campus and off, bringing artists together with enthusiasts in lectures, demonstrations, conferences, open-call casting, and community master classes.

Cal Performances can offer these life-changing programs at minimal cost ONLY with the support of thousands of individual and foundation donors, corporate sponsors and public contributors. Give now to support these programs.
